This is a text description of Figure 8-2, "TCP/IP Properties Panel".

The text surrounding the figure describes the use of this dialog box. The figure is a screen capture image and contains example data that may not match your system. You must make selections appropriate for your system. The title bar label is "Microsoft TCP/IP Properties".

The client area* has five tabs. The open tab is labeled "IP Address", and the closed tabs are labeled "DNS", "WINS Address", "DHCP Relay", and "Routing". The "IP Address" tab has three sections and a button. Below the tab display is a row of three buttons.

The first section is a text paragraph: "An IP address can be automatically assigned to this network card by a DHCP server. If your network does not have a DHCP server, ask your network administrator for an address, and then type it in the space below." The next section is a drop-down list box labeled "Adapter:" (the "p' is underlined) and containing the entry "[1] AMD PCNET PCI Ethernet Adapter". The next section has two radio buttons. The first radio button is labeled "Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server" (the "O" of Obtain is underlined). The second radio button (selected) is labeled "Specify an IP address" (the "S" of Specify is underlined), and it has three edit boxes. The first edit box is labeled "IP Address:" (the "I" is underlined) and has the entry "192.168.2.2". The second edit box is labeled "Subnet Mask:" (the "u" is underlined) and has the entry "255.255.255.0". The third edit box is labeled "Default Gateway" (the "G" is underlined) and has the entry "192.168.2.1". At the bottom of the tab is a button labeled "Advanced..." (the first "d" of Advanced is underlined).

The three buttons are labeled: "OK", "Cancel", and "Apply".
