Installing Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control

Once you have configured your system to meet hardware and software requirements, start Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) and install Grid Control as follows:

  1. Start OUI by specifying the full path to the setup.exe script.

  2. The following table describes the recommended action for each OUI screen for the first two installation types.

If you need more assistance, click Help on that screen. If you have trouble with the installation, check out the "Troubleshooting" chapter of Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control Installation and Basic Configuration.

    Installation Screen Recommended Action
Specify Installation Type Select one of the installation types provided. The complete installation type is chosen by default.
Specify Installation Location Specify the "parent" directory location for the installation. All Oracle homes created during installation will be placed as subdirectories under the parent directory.
Language Selection Select the languages to run Grid Control in. The language you specify here is not the language of the installation session.
Product-Specific Prerequisite Checks Verify that all prerequisite checks succeed.

OUI checks the system to verify that it is configured correctly to support your Oracle software. If you have met all hardware and software requirements in this guide, all of the checks should pass.

If a check fails, review the cause of failure, rectify the problem, and retry the check. You can also choose to manually verify failed checks if you are satisfied that your system meets the requirements.

Specify Configuration Appears only for the "Enterprise Manager Grid Control Using a New Database" installation type.

Specify the name of the database you want to create, as well as the location to store the Management Repository files. Choose a file location outside of the Oracle home.

Other Installation or Upgrade Options

In addition to performing a complete Grid Control installation, either using the embedded database or an existing, qualified one, you can perform the following other installation or upgrade operations:

Refer to Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control Installation and Basic Configuration for detailed information and instructions on all of the above operations.

Using the Agent Deployment Application

You can install the Management Agents using the Agent Deployment application. This application is part of the Grid Control installation, and can be used to "push" Management Agents from a central location to one or more target hosts in a single operation. The Agent Deployment application uses the complete Cygwin suite (full collection of the software tools packaged in Cygwin). This application uses ssh to "push" the agents to a target host. The ssh connectivity is established by following script:

<OMS_HOME>/sysman/prov/resources/scripts /sshConnectivity.sh

Before running this script, make sure that MSKNT and OpenSSH are not be running on the target host. To initiate a deployment operation, click Install Agent on the Grid Control Deployments page. For more details, refer to the "Installing the Management Agent Using Agent Deploy" section in Oracle Enterprise Manager Installation and Basic Configuration.

Using the agentDownload.vbs Script

You can install the Management Agents using the agentDownload.vbs script. Launch this script on each target host to "pull" files from a central staging location. To obtain the agentDownload script:

  1. Download the Win32_Grid_Control_agent_download_10_2_0_2.0.zip file from OTN:

    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/htdocs/agentsoft.html

  2. Copy the downloaded file to the <OMS_HOME>/sysman/agent_download/10.2.0.2.0 directory.

    Note:

Create the <OMS_HOME>/sysman/agent_download/10.2.0.2.0 directory, if it does not exist.
  3. Go to this directory by executing the following:

    cd <OMS_HOME>/sysman/agent_download/10.2.0.2.0

When you are here, confirm that the size and checksum calculation of the downloaded file match the information specified on the OTN download page.

  4. Unzip this file by executing the following command:

    <OMS_HOME>/bin/unzip.exe Win32_Grid_Control_agent_download_10_2_0_2_0.zip

  5. After unzipping, the agentdownload.vbs will be available at <OMSHOME>/sysman/agentdownload/10.2.0.2.0/win32/agentDownload.vbs.

  6. If agent_download.rsp does not exist in the <OMS_ HOME>/sysman/agent_download/10.2.0.2.0 directory, do the following:

    1. Execute mv agent_download.rsp.bak agent _download.rsp.

    2. Edit agent_download.rsp and modify s_OMSHost="%s_hostname%" and s_OMSPort="%s _OMSPort%" variables with the correct OMSHost and OMSPort values.

      For example:

      s_OMShost="acme.foo.us.com"
      s_OMSPort="4889"

  7. Download the agentDownload.vbs on the machine where you want to install the Management Agent by following these steps:

    1. Log into the target host.

    2. Bring up the browser window.

    3. Download the agentDownload script from http://OMSHOST.ACME.COM:4889/agent_ download/10.2.0.2.0/<win32>/agent Download.vbs

where OMSHOST.ACME.COM is the host machine on which the Oracle Management Service has been installed.

    Note:

Before executing the agentDownload.vbs script, ensure Windows Script Host version 5.6 is installed on the target host. This is required for the script to be executed successfully.
  8. Navigate to the directory where the agentDownload script is available and run agentDownload.vbs by executing the following command:

    CScript.exe agentDownload.vbs b <ORACLE_HOME> m <OMS_HOST> r <HTTPport>

    For example,

    CScript.exe agentDownload.vbs b C:\foo m foo.us.abc.com r 4889
